In Just3Things, your OKRIs automatically fall into a time period based on their date range. This makes it easier for you to keep track of your work in the time period that it relates to, as opposed to having to sift through your past, present and future OKRIs to find the one you're interested in.
Work on your OKRIs in their quarterly time period.
Be able to review previous OKRIs by simply going back to their time period.
Be able to plan future OKRIs without having them clutter your existing dashboard.
Retain all of your past experiences in real time without needing to track them down and restore them from your archive.
Replacement of the archive with a dedicated 'bin'.
How it works:
When you create your OKRI, it will automatically be viewable in the time periods that the OKRI exists in. For example, if your OKRI runs from 1st January 2022 to 30 March 2022, it will live within the 1st quarter of 2022.
These quarterly time periods are automatically generated when the system encounters an OKR in a particular time period. So if you have an OKRI that is not due to begin until the 4th quarter of 2023, all of the quarters between now and then will be generated automatically, and you'll be able to select these as needed.
It's also worth mentioning that if your OKRI spans several quarters, it will appear across those quarters. This is particularly useful for top level OKRIs that have a longer duration to completion. So for example if your OKRI has a start date in the 1st quarter and an end date in the last quarter, it'll appear in each quarter for the year.
How it looks:
On any page where you can view an OKRI (i.e team page, company page or your personal profile page) you'll see the date selector just above the strategy. You can click on the arrows to cycle through each time period or click on the date itself to see more options:
As you can see above, there are several options you can choose from. We'll explain each as follows:
Current time periods: Clicking on this option will display all of the time periods for this calendar year. You can choose to select a specific time period or view the whole year.
Upcoming time periods: Clicking on this option will display a list of all future years and their quarters. These are generated automatically based on any future OKRIs that exist.
Previous time periods: Clicking this option will display all of the previous years and their quarters. You can choose to look at a whole year or at a specific quarter or a previous year. This is generated based on your historical OKRIs.
Archiving or deleting OKRIs:
As your OKRIs will now exist in a time period, you no longer have to archive your OKRIs at the start of the next quarter to manually to tidy up your dashboard. Instead, they'll continue to exist in their time period. However, if you want to remove your OKRIs, you can now delete them and they'll move to your bin. They will continue to exist in the bin for a further 30 days before being deleted.
To access your bin, click on the cog symbol to the upper right of the page and click 'Bin':
To restore one of your OKRIs, click on the 3 dots next to the OKRI in question and click restore. You'll then be redirected to the restored OKRI:
Keep in mind that if you delete an Objective, it'll also delete any key results and initiatives that belong to it. To delete just a key result or initiative, you need to access them individually and delete them.
When you restore an OKRI from your bin, it will restore all of the key results and initiatives associated with the objective.
Frequently asked questions:
I have an annual OKRI, how will this look?
If your OKR runs across several quarters, it will appear in each quarter. So if you have an annual OKR that runs for the duration of 2022, it will appear in each quarter in 2022.
Can I remove a quarterly time period if there are no OKRIs in there?
No, we include all quarters between now and the future quarter where an OKRI exists. So if you have an OKRI that is not due to begin for a couple of years, all of the quarters between now and then will be generated and accessible.
We don't work in quarters; can we set a custom time period?
Not right now, but this is something we may look to introduce in a subsequent iteration of the product.
I've reviewed some previous OKRs but they appear as unaligned instead of against a strategy, why?
If a historical strategy no longer exists on the system, then the OKR for that time period will appear as unaligned.
I've reviewed an old OKR, but it doesn't appear to be owned by a team or individual?
Its possible that the individual or team no longer exists on the system. If you encounter this issue and want to update the OKR, please contact your administrator or a member of the Just3Things support team for assistance.
